Liar Game Manga Gets 2nd Live-Action Film UPDATED

>> Wednesday, October 5, 2011

Hurrah for all fans! Not only Liar Game will be resuming this November, there will be another live-action movie this upcoming March 2012!!!

This year's 45th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine is announcing on Thursday that a second live-action film inspired by Shinobu Kaitani's Liar Game psychological thriller manga will open on March 3, 2012. Shota Matsuda (Hana Yori Dango) will reprise his lead role as the genius Akiyama, while Mikako Tabe (Kimi ni Todoke) will play the heroine Yū in a new game.

Here's the movie's trailer. The title of the movie will be Liar Game: Reborn

Yeah, I'm very happy with these news but...

Who's Yu by the way?

I have read the manga up to its latest chapters, but I haven't encountered a character named Yu. I bet this will be an original character just like Katsuragi Ryo in Season 2. But hey, changing the main characters?

If we're talking about Liar Game, Kanzaki Nao must there.

Unless this will be a sort of prequel for Akiyama - how he infiltrate the MLM Corporation that triggered his mother to suicide. The live-action has released a special episode "Episode Zero - Akiyama" set as seven years before he engaged in Liar Game tournament, so there's a probability that they will show how a cunning Akiyama ended up in jail. Besides, there's no explanation what happened about this yet.

If that's the case, then there's a reason why Nao wasn't there and why there's a change in protagonist.

Good thing they don't change Aki-chan's actor, 'coz that'll ruin some interest on fans. Some fans might disagree with me, but Matsuda is perfect for Akiyama. Geez, I really want to see him together with Toda Erika (actress of Nao) in this movie. They are so cute together~

The way how the live-action ended the story on the first movie "Final Stage: Garden of Eden" was well-executed, so there's no reason for it to add some more...unless there would be a revival of LGT.

Come to think of it, Hunter X Hunter manga was picked up from its deep sleep at the same time the remake and continuation of it's anime adaptation was made. Liar Game did the same...only that it will be as live-action movie.

UPDATE#1: Trailer added above.

According to the news, this will be a 'sequel' to the first movie. The LGT was revived and Akiyama joined to investigate it.

Not only our Nao will removed but also the LGT handler Eri (Kichise Michiko). And just like Nao, her role will not be replaced but an additional character will be added, which is a young kid Alice (Ashida Mana). But man, Fukunaga was there! That's so....

Unless this will be another "trololol" by the crew. Just like the last movie, their trailers are very misleading, making us assumed that Akiyama/Nao was "X". There's no revelation that Yokoya will be in the casting, but he appeared in the movie.

For those who have read the last arc of the manga, the second movie was similar to the "Musical Chairs" round. The setting was in an isolated island (it was a vacation resort in the manga). Just like the "Trip to Jerusalem" game, each player must sit on the chair when the music stops - this time the players must look for a chair which are hidden around the island and sit on it before the alarm sounded. Those who were not able to sit on a chair will be eliminated in the game, but have a chance to aid those who are still on the game. Every elimination all the players (eliminated or not) will assemble on a certain location, vote a person who is still on the game to be the one who will choose what chair to be removed. And just like in the movie, there are 20 players required to play the round.
